Remedial works to bridge structure & erosion prevention.
The Ogmore community route is an existing share use route connecting Nant-y-Moel and Ogmore Fawr valley in Bridgend. The structure is an arch bridge of stone masonry construction with a span of 12.1m and an arch barrel 0.5m thick. The structure has been undermined due to scour and wave action and other minor defects also the embankment has eroded overtime.
The structural improvement works largely involved mass concrete repairs to the footing using random rubble to create a permanent formwork, localised brick replacement, mitigation of ecological and environmental issues.
The upstream embankment was stepped, compacted and supported by a gabion wall on mass concrete foundation to protect the base from run off action. The steep nature of the downstream embankment required an alternative solution that was environmentally friendly and cost effective hence the utilisation of timber revetments
